a neccessary rest
I got sick this week, too sick to teach, and the heaviest feeling I had?
Guilt.
I took basically 3 days off from teaching. The first day was fine, I allowed myself to just be sick.
The second day was harder to take off, but I forced myself to do it.
The third day… I masked up, went into work, and was barely able to teach, let alone speak.
I know feeling guilty for getting sick is FAR from just a experience in the education world, but it doesn’t make it any less scary.
If I tried to do a hike while I was coughing, blowing my nose, my head aching, my body shivering, and my temperature rising, guess what I would do?
I would turn around.
You cannot do a hike, successfully, while sick. Sure, you could complete it, get to the top, and get back down. But… would you actually enjoy it? Over even experience it, in the way it was meant to be?
It’s okay to get sick. And it’s absolutely okay to take a day, or two, or three, or more, to rest.
Our world has turned away from nature, in so so so many ways, and that includes catching a cold. Getting sick is a sign your body needs to slow down, take a breath, and rest up.
So you can climb stronger, tomorrow.
