impossible job, part 2

Aside from teaching, I also tutor. Students of all ages.

Last Saturday, after tutoring 3 different high school students, I came to realization:

Being a student is impossible.

Every single math teacher is different in the way they grade, teach, organize, assign homework, make worksheets, prioritize, effort, effectiveness, etc, etc, etc.

Me, being a teacher myself, had trouble navigating some of the student’s online work, their problem sets, and I just couldn’t believe how wildly different each teacher’s experience is, and then added onto each student’s experience.

And then there are vast differences in schools, districts, states, countries.

I mean this is all obvious, and not a ground breaking thought, but it just sums up so well why this job is way too difficult.

But it’s also what makes it beautiful…

Each hike is unique, each park is its own, within a vast ecosystem.

Looking at any national park, the thought always creeps into my mind: how does this exist? It’s impossible that all these things happened to collide perfectly to create this beauty.

Imagine if we looked at our job the same.
